MORGENSTER TEAMS UP WITH CAFE DEL SOL FOR A TASTE OF ITALY
As the winter nights kick in earlier and earlier, The Sandton Times joined the Bryanston Shopping Centre and Café del Sol at a scrumptious food-and wine pairing evening with an Italian flair.
Guests of the evening were privy to an exclusive food and wine journey from Italy, with a South African culinary twist. The delectable dishes were paired with internationally acclaimed Bordeaux-style wines and extra virgin olive oil of remarkable quality by Morgenster. As if on a guided tour, the team from Morgenster took the culinary curious audience through it’s selection of wines and oils, bringing some of the divine flavours of both the meals and liquids to life.
Bruschetta with beetroot cured salmon prosciutto, spiced rocket and Morgenster lemon olive oil pesto was paired with Morgenster Cuvee Alessandra (only 3000 bottles produced worldwide), prepared the pallet for the evening ahead.
Springbok Carpaccio made up the starters, topped with aged Parmesan, a micro herb salad, dehydrated pear salsa, onion dust and Morgenster Don Carlo emulsion paired with Morgenster Caruso. This was followed by a three cheese infused prawn ravioli drizzled with Morgenster extra virgin olive oil and limoncello cream sauce, paired with Morgenster Vespri.
For mains, Jonathan Duiker, the Head Chef of the Café del Sol Group prepared a pepper-crusted Springbok loin, soft parmesan polenta, roasted baby onions and pepperonata red wine jus, paired with Morgenster Tosca. The sweet ending came in the form of velvet rose scented brûlée, iced rose petals, candied rose delights and pistachio biscotti paired with Morgenster Nabucco.
