MAJOR WATER SHUTDOWN IMPACTS SANDTON

Rand Water, which is the main bulk water supplier to Johannesburg and the greater Gauteng, will carry out a major water shutdown, that will affect all reservoirs and towers in terms of water supply, for 54 hours from today, June 24.

The water shutdown is underway on the B11 pipeline where a 2500mm Butterfly valve will be installed, from Lethabo to Vereeniging pumping station and this will result in a limited water supply to all those fed by Rand Water.

Johannesburg Water advises that the this does not necessarily mean that no water will be available during the estimated 54-hour water shutdown period, however, due to the extremely long hours, some areas may experience a shortage of water or low pressure.

Residents are encouraged to use water sparingly during the shutdown, in order to avoid a complete no-water situation. Level 1 water restrictions remain in place.
